The Contemporary Arts Society was founded in 1988 as a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting New Mexico's contemporary visual arts community. CAS' goals are to increase interest, understanding and involvement in contemporary art by encouraging collecting, sponsoring educational activities and supporting New Mexico's artists and art institutions. CAS sponsors monthly events, including visits to artists' studios, collectors' homes, galleries, museums and other institutions, and social events with visiting artists, critics, curators and dealers. From January 11 to February 2, 1992, the Contemporary Arts Society presented CAS Collects: Selections from the Members' Collections, in two gallery spaces in downtown Albuquerque. Again from January 26 to February 23, 1997, CAS Collects New Mexico presented the work of seventy five artists living and working in New Mexico with eighty five works lent by CAS members. Now in celebration of the millennium, CAS presents Works on Paper from the second half of the twentieth century by one hundred and five artists whose work has defined the visual arts from 1950 to 1999. |
