Magnifico joins forces with Southwest Repertory
Theater, the National Hispanic Cultural Center of New Mexico,
and the National Dance Institute of New Mexico to present a free
bilingual performance event for the whole family. Students from
Magnifico's Spring 2000 Community Center Workshops program will
perform theater and dance. The theatrical production is based
on oral histories from local Seniors, offering a unique view
of Albuquerque's history. Teacher Maria Leyba said, "The
children were amazed at the incredible lives our seniors have
lived. The seniors closed the gap between the generations."
The production is directed by Jennifer Lister of Southwest Repertory
Theater.
Magnifico's Community Center students taught
by National Dance Institute of New Mexico will perform the dance
portion of this event. National Dance Institute teaches "a
kind of street jazz which makes it fun to learn tenacity, focus,
teamwork and pride of achievement.
This event is a kick-off for Fiestas de
Albuquerque weekend, which celebrates the founding of Albuquerque
through music, dance, food, and family fun. For more information
on Fiestas de Albuquerque, call 768-3483.
This event is funded in part
by the City of Albuquerque's Department of Family and Community
Services and the Urban Enhancement Trust Fund and the National
Hispanic Cultural Center of New Mexico. Special thanks to the
South Broadway Cultural Center.
