CALL FOR ENTRIES

 

Go! Downtown Albuquerque Arts Festival 2004 is Albuquerque's only contemporary arts festival designed to serve up hot, local, contemporary works for collectors, art dealers, art lovers, and the unitiated! Dedicated to showcasing diverse local talent, Go creates a unique and engaging art experience for all. Some 10,000 spectators and 200 exhibitors are expected for 2004.

Go! is brought to you by the Downtown Action Team in partnership with Magnifico and other presenters and sponsors.

ELIGIBILITY
Downtown Action Team encourages broad participation from all local artists, both established and emerging. Go is open to New Mexico artists working in all media and styles, including fine craft. Contemporary uses of the traditional are encouraged.

FORMAT
Go is held front and center in the heart of Downtown Albuquerque the last weekend of September. Contemporary artists take over Central Avenue between 3rd and 8th Streets, transforming Downtown's busiest black top into a river of creative genius! Go's main stage and dance floor featuring live local music and entertainment sit at Albuquerque's Historic Route 66 Crossroads at 4th and Central Avenue.

Official Exhibit and Preview Gala
A juried exhibit from Go participating artists will be featured at Albuquerque's premiere arts venue, Magnifico 516 Artspace. For the 4th year running, Magnifico will be hosting Go's official exhibit and preview gala during the festival weekend. This year's gala will be held Friday, September 24 from 6-9pm.

Official Festival Guide and Promotions
ABQ arts, Albuqerque's monthly magazine of the arts, is once again Go's Official Arts Festival Guide Sponsor (thank you ABQ arts)! 12,000 tabloid-sized guides packed with your art, festival info, related editorials and site-map will be a pull out section in their September issue, distributed statewide. An additional 12,000 guides are published and placed throughout the Albuquerque, Taos and Santa Fe areas. Citadel Communications, 103.3 The Zone, 95.5 Classical KHFM and 93.3 KOB FM are Go's official airwave sponsors! All stations will be doing pre-event promos as well as live satellites during the festival itself. Go's promotion package rounds out with an extensive marketing budget provided by our sponsors, including New Mexico Business Weekly. On your mark!

FESTIVAL REGULATIONS
Absolutely no commercial, manufactured or kit work will be accepted. Work must be designed, created and produced under the applicant's direct supervision and represented at the festival by the artist. All artists must be on site during the entire festival.

ENTRY
Artists must submit one complete application form. Notification of acceptance will be emailed within two weeks of receipt of application. Include a self-addressed stamped envelope for return of slides. Entries without a SASE will not be returned.

ENTRY FEE
A $25 non-refundable entry fee is required with each application. Please make checks payable to Downtown Action Team.

PARTICIPATION FEE
Accepted artists will be given a 10' x 10' booth. Booths are installed, canopied and include an optional 4' x 8' free standing, sturdy horizontal wall, a 6' folding table and chair. Participation fee benefits include the Go Festival Guide, preview gala, an extensive advertising/marketing budget, promotional posters and postcards. Total cost of participation is $225 (not including the entry fee). Booths may be shared for an additional $75 per artist, however each artist must submit an application and entry fee. 10' x 20' booths are available for and additional $175. Limited electricity, additional walls, tables/chairs are also available.

SET-UP AND TEAR-DOWN
Downtown Action Team will provide you with your exhibit location, parking instructions, and time of set-up at orientation (see calendar). You may receive additional instructions from DAT at the actual set-up time. Your exhibit must remain open and attended during all regular show hours. Artists are encouraged to arrange for friends and volunteers to "booth sit" for short periods.

SLIDES/DIGITAL IMAGES
Artists must submit two works for review. (Brownie points if you supply digital images in TIFF, EPS, PDF format at 355dpi on CD)! The artwork listed in Entry #1 (see app. form) will be your image in the ABQ arts Go Festival Guide. Choose a high quality image with some contrast. Downtown Action Team reserves the right to reproduce all accepted images for promotional purposes.

PREVIEW EXHIBIT
A juried exhibit of participating artists will be presented by Magnifico during the Festival. If selected, one work (gallery ready) must be dropped off at Magnifico 516 Artspsace on Monday, Sept 20 between 1-6pm. All work during this period will be insured. An artist may offer their gallery artwork for sale. *
*A 40% commission will be taken on work sold at Magnifico.
